New Employee Training Option for Area Employers

Middlesex and Northern Essex community colleges are now partnering to offer Merrimack Valley employers one-stop shopping for their workforce development needs.

Businesses, hospitals, nonprofits, and public agencies looking for employee education and training programs can now access the resources of both colleges, thanks to the new collaboration.

Called Merrimack Valley Partners for Progress, the new alliance delivers a full range of onsite, on-campus, and online programs, ranging from professional development and management courses for executives and supervisors to basic workplace and ESOL skills training.

"We can train managerial, administrative, technical and support staff," said Dr. Carole Cowan, President of Middlesex Community College. "And we have a proven track record with larger employers such as Verizon, Raytheon, and Lahey Clinic as well as smaller businesses throughout the region."

"Together, our two community colleges can provide a strong educational and training support system for the region's workforce. We will be looking specifically at health care high tech manufacturing, defense, electronics, life sciences, communications and software, and the green energy industry, all key industries in this area," said Dr, Lane Glenn, President of Northern Essex Community College.

Northern Essex and Middlesex Community Colleges have each been delivering workforce training in the Merrimack Valley for close to 30 years, often working collaboratively on projects, said Royall Mack, a trustee of Middlesex Community College and retired senior executive with Gillette. "By combining their efforts, the two will be even more able to address employer needs."
